  • Grand Anse/Petite Anse:

Two lovely deserted beaches on the east coast of the island; Grand Anse and Petite Anse are particularly pleasant between November and April. However, it is recommended to respect the signs indicating possibility of swimming or not.

  • Anse Source d’Argent:

Better-known as the most photographed beach in the world, the main attraction of Anse Source d'Argent is the massive, pink granite boulders, which seem to fall straight from the mountain into the calm, crystal clear ocean. Ideal setting for a private affair with the sun...

  • WALKING:

  • NO.1 – Round the Bays of Severe Patates and Fourmis:

Follow the coastal road north past the port and Police Station and walk to the rocks at cape Barbi. You will see the tiny cemetery on the right, then you will go round the beautiful Anse Sévère and on round the northern cape of the island arriving at Anse Patates. Here nature offers a magnificent spectacle: huge trees, crystal clear water and snow white beaches where the ocean waves break. The rock pools round this bay are among the best for under-water exploration.
  • NO.2 – NID D’AIGLES :

Starting off from La Passe harbour, turn right after a few yards towards Anse Réunion to La Digue Island Lodge, then take the first turning left towards the interior. You pass an old house surrounded by high walls which everyone calls the “ Chateau”, then turn left down a small pathway past a small group of houses, after about an hours walk you will reach the top of the mountain (300 metres). If you walk left towards the east along the mountain ridge, you will get a marvellous view of the ocean and the islands of Marianne, Mahé, Praslin and Fregate.
About a hundred metres after the second house, turn left down the pathway leading through the beautiful rain forest and imposing rocks until you find yourself back at the “Chateau” once more.

  • NO.3. ANSE SOURCE D'ARGENT: :

Starting off in a southern direction from La Passe harbour, go on past the hotels, the church, the Union Estate coconut plantations where there is an old colonial house, then follow the track to where it comes to an end at Anse Source D'Argent, a beautiful place to spend the day.

  • NO.4 – Towards the Southern Part of the Island to Grand Anse and Back to La Passe: :

Follow the coast road from La Passe south-west, going past La Digue Lodge hotel. After about half an hours walk you will reach Union Estate: cut straight across and get back on the coast road. Ten minutes later you will sight the first spectacular rock formations. Go past them and walk along the beach until you reach some more rocks: pass behind them and walk on till you get to Anse Source à Jean, and then on further down the beach to Anse Pierrot to the southern tip where a path leads to Anse Cèdres and Anse Bonnet Carre. At low tide you will probably be able to walk round the rugged rocks at Pointe Jacques, otherwise carry on south behind the rocks until you get to Source Marron stream. Then there is a barely recognizable path leading steeply upwards through the rain forest. After about ten minutes walk look out for a path on the right going higher to a huge flat rock, having passed some small streams first. Cross over the rocks until you come across a path going down to the left. At Grand Cap you have to go down to the coast again, and once you get to Grand Anse, go ahead until you reach Pointe Canon. And there, behind the rocks, you will find a path in the direction of Grand Anse which joins up with the wider road leading back to L a Passe.
